Director's Note Mad Dash at the Olympics Pow! Pix of New York just wrapped up an exhausting on-site production schedule for the Beijing Olympics. Winning the bid to produce the gymnastics required a ton of hardware muscle and strategic planning. Five edit systems were required to produce the gymnastic packages including three Avid Symphony Nitris DX's for the heavy editing and finishing, two Avid Media Composer Adrenaline HD systems, primarily for digitizing, and three more Adrenaline's for the producers. All footage was shot on Sony XDCAM and was shared over 16TB of Avid Unity (5.1) storage. Production members arrived early to build this mobile studio so that it could run around the clock for over two weeks. The spectacle of the Olympics was impressive. The production value was almost flawless. Even if you have no interest in these sporting events, anyone with a field production background should have noted the technical complexity of this summer's Olympics. From the underwater tracking devices to the wireless HD camera rigs, we were treated to much eye candy.
