  Apple iPhone
The New iPhone 2.0

One piece of news I didn't anticipate discussing in this forum is the announcement of the new iPhone . On July 11, Apple is scheduled to release the latest iPhone equipped with GPS and the all-new 2.0 version of the software. The significance to our industry is the ability to finally download the SDK (software developers kit) and therefore the ability to create content for this revolutionary device. As everyone knows, the iPhone is more than a standard communication gadget. With the release of the SDK, content creators with basic scripting knowledge are now developing content in a matter of weeks. With the ability to purchase new content and programs specifically for the iPhone, content creators all over can now rejoice.

Lastly, we had a chance to talk with our dear friend Bob Donlon from Adobe earlier this month to get the inside scoop on Adobe TV. In our feature for this month, Bob discusses how he figured out an “ingenious way” (our words) for Adobe to tap into their very own Adobe Media Player technology. Check it out below.

Until next time…

Basic Guide to Understanding EQ
By Kendall Scott, B&H
Digital Anarchy

Using equalization may be second nature for the experienced, but it can be a veritable minefield for those new to the details of the concept. Perhaps you have a rudimentary idea of basic EQ from your home sound system, or from making simple adjustments on the audio mixer that you may have in your recording/editing setup. Learning to use EQ means experimenting to discover which adjustments work and do not work for a given situation. By using your ears and making intuitive adjustments you may eventually achieve desired results, but if you have a good understanding of the nuts and bolts you will be able to focus and zero in on the sound you are seeking, with speed and purpose. Make Blu-ray more affordable!
DVD Association

The DVDA is trying to make a case for relaxing certain expensive licensing requirements for using Blu-ray Disc,  to make it easier for non-Hollywood producers and authors to adopt the format and use it.  The DVDA has an ongoing dialog with the Blu-ray Disc Association regarding this topic, and we have been asked to provide additional data about the number of possible users currently not using BD.

Take the survey.
