Since NAB, I've spent a good deal of time discussing the future of content delivery with fellow media professionals. The convergence of technology has many colleagues excited and nervous. Excited because the ability to reach a broad audience is getting easier thanks to faster and more accessible broadband connections and the universal acceptance of flash video. Nervous because the industry is changing so fast that many of us don't know what technology to invest in or how to even plan for the short term-never mind the distant future. Well, I have personally seen a new method of content delivery that shows a tremendous potential for revolutionizing the way all of us view the web. At NAB, Adobe announced the upcoming beta release of the all-new Adobe Media Player. With further hands-on experience, I have every reason to believe that Adobe is about to launch an amazing new tool that everyone from the freelance videographer to the major television broadcaster will greatly benefit. The Adobe Media Player claims to be a better way “to deliver, monetize, brand, track and protect video content. It provides an array of video delivery options for high-quality online and offline playback, including on-demand streaming, live streaming, progressive download, and protected download-and-play.” With all this potential, you can count on the DVPA to be a part of the initial beta release. We'll begin to experiment with content deliver and will need your feedback. If you want to read more, download the PDF from Adobe.

NAB…what a rush! Of all the NAB trips to Vegas we've taken over the last ten years, 2007 will certainly go down as the most successful for DVPA. We had countless meetings, dinners and events all crammed into a single week. We had a great roundtable discussion at our annual Advisory Board Meeting. Members will start to see some new and welcomed faces populate the site with great industry knowledge. What does all this mean for the association? Over the next few months, you'll begin to see some major benefits added to your membership. The best part for members is that there is no increase in fees. We remain committed to programs built specifically to enhance members' creativity, speed up work performance, and help relieve the significant costs associated with production.
