AE CS3 intorduces the ability to animate text per character 3D. This is a really great feature becuase of the control that you now how over your text animation.
1.
Type text on the screen
2. Go down to your animator and select Position. The X and Y values will move the text as the respective axis, at the range will determine which part of the text the transformation will apply to. This has been in AE for awhile, but now you can go back to the Add menu>Property>Enable Per character 3D. The Position value in the timeline now has 3 values instead of just 2. This third property is the Z axis, and gives our text 3d capabilities.
3. Change the Z-Axis value, and and a camera so you can see the effect a little better.
4.
Then change your offset value to 0 and Start to 20. Then open up Advanced, and choose Round as your shape to get a really interesting effect.
More properties can be added via the Add menu for even more of an effect in 3d motion, not just 2d! In the movie below, I've added a blur property as the test flys in to give it a little more depth.
